Moving Forward After Spinal Cord Injury
Rediscovering Movement
For people living with a spinal cord injury, recovery is about much more than the hours spent in therapy sessions. It’s about finding ways to rediscover movement, rebuild independence, and uncover new reasons to stay hopeful each day. Progress often comes in small, meaningful steps that restore not only physical strength but also confidence and purpose. At Restorative Therapies, our mission is to provide technology that makes those steps possible, giving individuals tools they can integrate into daily life to stay active, engaged, and connected to their goals. The RT300 Therapy System, a Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) cycle, has already empowered thousands of people around the world to maintain circulation, preserve muscle, and keep their bodies moving despite the challenges of paralysis. For Josh Basile, one of the earliest pioneers to use the RT300, it represented far more than a device—it became the turning point in his journey toward strength, independence, and renewed hope.
Discovering the RT300: A New Chapter After Injury
From Tragedy to Determination: Finding Hope with the RT300
Josh’s life was changed when a powerful wave slammed him headfirst into the ocean floor, leaving him paralyzed. The toughest challenge he faced in the early days was not the accident itself, but the sudden loss of independence. Instead of giving up, Josh remained determined to take control of his health and his future. His search for meaningful recovery led him to Restorative Therapies and the RT300 — a therapy system that would restore strength, movement, and hope.
First At Home RT300
Josh made history as the first person to purchase the RT300 for home. For him, it wasn’t just a new therapy system, it turned his uncertainty into possibility.
“Since then, I’ve ridden thousands and thousands of sessions,” Josh shares. “It’s just an amazing feeling to be able to move again.”
One of the most impactful parts of Josh’s journey has been bringing therapy into his home. Having daily access to the RT300 meant he could stay consistent and build his life around progress rather than limitations.
“You can bring exercises home, exercises based on your schedule, and your time. And you’re not always having to travel and be on the road. So bringing it home allowed me to truly get on with my life. And to pursue my education, to pursue my aspirations of employment, and to start a family.”
With the RT300, recovery became something that fit into his life and empowered him to stay focused on his goals.
Rediscovering Movement
The RT300 brought more than physical benefits. It gave Josh a sense of connection to his body that he thought might have been gone forever.
“There’s something really cool about looking down and seeing your body, seeing your legs doing something that they haven’t done for 21 years, and that maybe you didn’t think they were ever going to do again. There’s something really profound about that.”
With each ride, he regained not only strength but also confidence, proving to himself that progress was possible.
New Possibilities Ahead
Josh has always been someone who seeks out challenges and opportunities. The RT300 gave him exactly that: a chance to push further and explore new potential.
“I’m always excited to find something that I haven’t been able to try. FES brought about this new possibility of like, ‘I can do this and I can thrive in my life.’”
That mindset has carried him for over 21 years, through thousands of sessions, with each one fueling his determination to keep moving forward.
”“There’s something really cool about looking down and seeing your legs doing something that they can't do - that maybe you didn’t think they were ever going to do again. There’s something really profound about that.”
